We are a passionate family run business providing professional chimney sweeps and chimney services throughout South Wales.
We take our customers and our own safety very seriously at Steed Sweeps, therefore since the pandemic we have studied and ensured that we have adhered to all required safety regulations set out to us by 'The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps' and in compliance with the government guidelines.
With this in mind, we will message you the day before your appointment to ensure that you, or anyone in your house have no potential Covid symptoms. We would also like to reassure our customers that we would cancel any appointments if likewise myself or my family were presented with any symptoms. We will also message to ensure that all necessary prevention measures are adhered to during the sweep and remind our customers of our safety checklist.
Please also be assured that during each appointment I will be wearing full PPE and that we will disinfect all kit between each appointment, and that clean sheets will be used each time.
My name is Matthew, and I have been a Firefighter serving throughout South Wales for the last 17 years. As my family started to grow, I decided to start my own business in a sector I had always been interested in. I knew there was a calling for more sweeps around my area, so I took the plunge and decided to go on a chimney sweeping course alongside my Fire Service career, and became accredited with 'The Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps'. I instantly enjoyed the chimney cleaning skills I learnt during my course and assessments, and haven't looked back since providing my chimney services around South Wales.
We currently offer the following services:
' Excellent service, very professional and polite. Matthew was very thorough and created no mess at all. Highly recommended '
' Brilliant service from Matthew. Turned up on time, no mess at all and happy to explain everything he was doing. Will definitely be using his services again '
' Had my chimney swept today. Matthew explained exactly what needed doing and the sweep was carried out with no fuss and no mess. Very professional service! Looking forward to some Autumn evenings in front of the fire '
' Great service from Matt, punctual, professional, meticulous and thorough. Not a speck of dust or mess. Very happy to recommend and will be happy to have him back next year '
We hope to answer some of your questions and queries here that we get asked a lot, however if your query isn't here, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will answer your question directly.
Regular sweeping is vital to remove blockages and soot. This prevents chimney fires and allows deadly combustion gases to be safely vented through the chimney. Clean chimneys burn more efficiently which will save you money.
As a rough guide, it is recommended that the following types of burners be swept this frequently:
We also offer reminder services. When your sweep is due, we will text or email to let you know as a gentle reminder.
It usually takes around 45 minutes to an hour however, this depends on the size and length of the chimney and how dirty it is. When completing our sweeps we concentrate on the quality of the sweep and will complete it in a timely manner to the highest standard.
No we do not. This is why we recommend you hiring a professional, we will put down sheets to protect your carpets and seal the front of the fireplace and use a powerful industrial vacuum which is running as we sweep to stop soot escaping into the room.
It is easier to sweep with more room, therefore we will need a clear area in front of the fire place to work. The hearth should be clear of any ornaments etc, and the grate clear of ash. The fire/stove will need to be cold to complete the sweep.
While you can sweep your own chimney, it is not something we would recommend. It would take a very long time to try and clean your chimney without any of the tools and equipment that a professional would use. You also run the risk that your room and yourself may get very dirty as you won’t have the required protective gear a professional would have. We’d recommend that a professional chimney sweep complete this task on your behalf, this will then ensure a clean and fully functional flue. It is important to remember that if you sweep your own flue and there was a problem that you failed to spot, your insurance policy may not cover the damage, as if you’d used a professional service, the problem would have been rectified and we also provide a certificate to validate the sweep for your insurance purposes.
In line with Covid-19 regulations, we have purchased a card machine that we can bring to the sweep to complete the sweeping transaction. Payments can also be BACS transferred, but we can also accept cash payments
